What was the point of this show?  I thought it was called “Smallville” and not “Superman” for a reason!  It was supposed to be Clark’s journey towards becoming Superman.  That was the one thing that was always clear – this is Clark, pre-Superman.

But that means that if you fill the entire show with Clark’s future, then you’ve basically invalidated the premise of your own show – that it takes Clark time to become Superman.  That it’s a long and complex road.  That he has to develop those attributes.

For 7 years the whole show has been Clark clinging to the farm.  So, don’t get me wrong, for Clark to want to expand his horizons is well overdue.  But where’s the journey?!?

Are we really supposed to be okay with the fact that the minute Clark decides that maybe there’s more out there he suddenly gets a job at the DP, helps the other heroes around him, and ultimately survives Doomsday.

This?  Is not a journey.  This is a destination where they’ve just lost the luggage containing his costume.

I know they never should of introduced Lois Lane or any other person from Clark's future. I can understand Lex, Pete and Lana but the others are just wrong. He's not Superman. No matter the fact that he's 22ish he's still holding on to some adolecent fantasy about the perfect normal life and tried to hold on to that no matter how wrong it is. He's not normal and never will be cry me a river and get over it.

Ididn't agree with Lois being in at first and all the "future" things in the show but now I am a bit more laid back about it and just enjoy the show. I'm a fan of the comic books, the films and Lois & Clark and I gave up looking for any continuity or sense in the Superman universe. That goes double for Smallville since they've been doing what they want with the mythos for a long time.

I think that what is really bugging me about the show is that, in sci-fi, there's a certain amount of suspension of disbelief that has to occur in order to enjoy it – you have to accept, for the story’s sake, the existence of aliens, clones, mind control, mutations, any number of things that we’re not sure really exist or are possible.

IMO, the way that’s best done is by making everything in the story that’s not something extraordinary make sense. Stretching credulity to believe in someone with super powers is one thing, because the show couldn’t be about Superman if we didn’t do that.

Having to constantly stretch it because of half of the everyday things that come up is just annoying and distracting because there could definitely still be a show if the day to day lives of everyone made sense.

To me, it kind of seems like the writers get an idea for a really cool event/storyline they like and it doesn’t matter if it interferes with everything that’s come before it, they just turn on a dime and wedge it in and then alter all the characters involved to try to make it work. I hate it because it makes the characters hard for me to connect with.

There’s a lot of love for the Superman story and I think that they could get away with changing up the characters if they had continuity in the stories, or changing up the stories if they had continuity in the characters. But they have neither and this switch over in everyone’s life this season to rush Clark into Superman’s life is so abrupt that it’s really starting to get to me.

Like how did Clark go from hating everything Luthor to being willing to work for LuthorCorp under the nose of the new CEO? Does he honestly think that Lex picked a successor that would be against everything he believed and what he had done with his company? And now Clark’s used his powers while she’s around. So now, in order for the new season to work, Clark has to ignore the last few years of his life.

And are we really supposed to just accept Chloe’s series long, all consuming desire to be a reporter is gone because of one line of dialogue?

And, honestly, I’ve been a Lois fan for so long that I really want to love her character here. It’s just hard when they keep doing the non-development thing because they figure that we all know that she’s going to be a star reporter eventually, so they don’t have to bother doing any of the work to show it.

As you can see, I’m kind of frustrated. lololol Mostly, though, it’s because the show has the potential to be great and they just waste it because new shiny things pop into their head and they’re off writing that, and to hell with what they wrote previously.

Although I will say that I’m glad that you’re enjoying the show. It would suck beyond words for everyone to hate it. lol

I agree they should be able to get the real life details right and it does seem they just run free with any good idea they like whether it fits in with the broader picture or not. Personally as a budding writer I couldn't do that.

Well I suppose they explained why Clark was working at the DP by saying that way he can know everything that's going on and he can help more people. But I was surprised he just went out there and helped people without being more careful and people seemed to be ignoring the fact he just went out there and helped people. Like Lois was distracted by the fact he didn't have a name for his source.

And Chloe suddenly changing careers is odd but then I've heard some stuff coming up they can use to explain that.

They shouldn't just expect us to all know that Lois is going to end up as a star reporter. The writers should show their working and remember fans who don't know much or anything about Superman.

It's true the show could have been so much better. I have always said it should have been four seasons long ending with Clark flying and going to the fortress or going travelling like he did in L&C.
